On Sunday the 26th August 2007, South African Football lost a special colleague dedicated to football development in Soweto. Thabo William Modjadji, 'Stander', 'Danny-boy' and 'Coach' to those who knew him in his various capacities, passed away suddenly leaving behind 2 sisters and a brother.

Born on the 15th August 1971, he founded Derby United FC in 1999. Over the 8 years he saw squads of u11, u13, u15 and u17 grow from strength to strength under his tutelage into regularly competitive teams with a never give up attitude. More than 120 boys have passed through the ranks of Derby United FC. In 2006, until his passing, 'Stander' formed part of the South East Zone LFA's disciplinary committee and was elected to coach the zones u13 select squad. A position he took great pride in.

His was a dedicated protagonist in the development of South African football talent and Amathole have had the privilege of being associated with a number of his players within its structures. Such was his belief in his players and his vision that he was renowned for having approached Manchester United for sponsorship. His activities extended deeper into the community than football and his absence will be widely felt.
